Los Angeles vs Washington

The Rams will wrap up their slate of NFC East games on Sunday afternoon when they travel to take on the Washington Football Team at FedEx Field. Washington has limped to a 1-3 record at the quarter mark of the season, while the Rams are seeking a 4-1 start with a win.

Washington will look to end its three-game losing streak by starting Kyle Allen at quarterback, benching Dwayne Haskins on Wednesday. That shouldn’t change much for the Rams, even though it is a puzzling move.

Here are six things to know about this Week 5 tilt.
1
Washington is near bottom of NFL in scoring offense and defense

Washington clearly hasn’t had a good season up to this point, starting 1-3 with its only win coming against the Eagles in Week 1. The defense has been better than the offense thus far, but neither has been impressive. The offense is 30th in scoring and total yards, while the defense is 22nd in scoring and seventh in yards.

Washington is 26th in passing yards and 30th in rushing yards, averaging the second-worst yards per carry (3.6). Defensively, it is worst against the run, ranking 23rd in rushing yards allowed. Opponents have rushed for at least 144 yards in each of the last three games.
2
Kyle Allen threw 16 interceptions in 12 starts last season

With Washington transitioning from Haskins to Allen, it’s worth revisiting Allen’s 2019 season in Carolina under coach Ron Rivera. He made 12 starts, completing 62% of his passes for 3,332 yards and 17 touchdowns. Not terrible numbers on the surface, but he did throw 16 interceptions and fumble it 13 times, which is a troubling trend.

It doesn’t help that he took 46 sacks for a league-high 397 yards lost, but Allen simply was not very good last season. It’s hard to imagine him being much better than Haskins in Week 5.
The Los Angeles Rams will have to prepare for a new quarterback, with the Washington Football Team benching second-year pro Dwayne Haskins in favor of backup Kyle Allen.

According to reports, Haskins has fallen all the way to No. 3 on the depth chart, with Alex Smith now serving as the No. 2 quarterback. The change in signal callers will affect L.A. preparation for Washington this week, as they look to sweep the NFC East after wins over the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants.

The Rams have a 13-26-1 record all-time against Washington, including the postseason. The Rams are 7.5-point favorites on the road, as L.A. plays three of its next four games away from SoFi Stadium.

The weather forecast for the Washington D.C. area on Sunday is 70s with a pretty good chance of rain.

Comment: Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been sacked 13 times and turned it over five times through four games. Haskins has been

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Washington made a QB switch, benching Haskins and handing the reins to Kyle Allen for Sunday’s game against the L.A. Rams, per a source informed of the situation. Alex Smith will be the backup and Haskins will be inactive, the team announced.

The move is a swift turn from the former first-round pick, who has started 11 total games in his young career over two seasons. Just last week, Rivera noted he was committed to Haskins after a three-pick performance. Commitment is fleeting in the NFL.

“We’re 1-3. Watching the game and Dwayne’s play, Dwayne needs more work,” Rivera told reporters Wednesday. “He just hasn’t had enough work in, and that’s the thing I think I hope that everyone understands. He’s got a live NFL arm. But he only played one year in college, he played very limited last year — I
